If you load up on effects like distortion, flange, etc. The extreme treble setting is bright and gutsy enough the extreme rhythm setting is a bit too muffled for my taste, but you can get a nice throaty sound with just the neck pickup and its tone knob at ∵. This guitar rocks just fine, thank you, but with a distinctive full sound that does not have quite the raunchiness of a good solid bodynot worse, just different. The center setting (using both pickups, tone knobs set in the middle) provides a sweet, husky sound (chords can sound like a V-8 engine revving). I suppose I will upgrade to name brand pickups someday, but that is not a priority now (and probably would be a waste of money later).

The neck pickup is noticeably louder than the bridge pickup. Apparently they have no model number, and they are not licensed ∽uncan Designed pickups like Samick uses in some other guitars. The stock Samick humbuckers seem very good, and produce deep, clear tones.
